Man believes he was set up for robbery

Police are trying to determine if two females helped set up an attempted robbery early Sunday morning.

Isreal Donley said he met a female he knew as “Mandy” outside of a closed bar on Leo Street. There was another female with Mandy. She said the other female was her sister.

Donley told police the three of them got into his car and started talking when he noticed a dark skinned man, possibly Hispanic, who walked out from behind a building. Donley said another man, white, who came up to his car and held a 9mm handgun to his head.

As the man tried to get in the car, Donley threw the car into reverse. He backed across a parking lot and down a small hill toward Kiser Street.  One of his tires went flat and he tore off a dumpster.  He then drove to Dayton First District Police Headquarters  and reported what happened.

The females got out of the car and did not wait for police to arrive.

Donley told police that both females were short, 5’4” to 5’6”, weighing about 135 pounds.  The white male had blonde hair, and the Hispanic male had dark hair.

An investigation continues.

Toddler recovering after being found in family pool

A one-year-old left unattended in a pool and nearly drowned Sunday night in Greenville Township.

Emergency responders were called to 5341 Warvel Road when the couple who lives in that house reported the child was drowning in the family pool, the Greenville Township Rescue Squad said. CareFlight was called to the scene and removed the child to Dayton Children's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Family members told News Center 7's John Bedell the mother of the child, Lyndal Klosterman, was looking for the child when she found her face down in the pool. They aren't sure how she got there. Firefighters said the girl was underwater for at least 4 minutes before her aunt, Janel Tumbush, pulled her out of the water and performed CPR.

"She had thrown up and started taking a breath," said Tumbush. "It was awesome, just hearing her cry was a good thing. It was really awesome."

The incident is being considered accidental, and the child's parents are not facing charges.
